What Have You Done Lately to Market Your Wines?
There are many ways to market your wines inside the restaurant aside from your wine list. Keeping wine on the minds of your patrons is also an important tool in selling wines. Here are just a few ways:
Wine displays- Strategically placing displays of featured wines around the dining room will help spark interest from guest.
Wine Tasting – Having a monthly wine tasting keep regular guests interested and help to develop new clients. Pare them with featured food menu items.
Feature cards- Either in the wine list or on the table depending on your establishment.
Adding descriptors- just a few descriptive words can assist your staff in selling wines.
Staff Training- Sampling tastes with your staff helps them understand the wine and assists them in food parings
Staff Incentives- Have a sales contest for wines. Track them each shift and keep a tally board so staff can see where the stand. Competition sometimes brings out the best in servers. Make the prizes obtainable so as to create enthusiasm.
Food Menu Parings- If you food menu allows, transcribe wines that pare well with specific items, but make sure you have plenty of inventory to support the menu
These are just a couple of ideas that can help stimulate sales through internal marketing. Don’t be afraid to ask your staff if they have any suggestions too. Many servers have worked in different restaurants and may have come across a great idea somewhere else.
